Classroom without walls

Whenever the topic of learning would come up, my vision would be of a teacher standing in front of a board within the secure confinement of four walls. So, when I was asked to be a part of one of the team-building groups, I agreed without a second thought.

4 nights and 5 days of the exciting journey began, we went to receive the group in their school. I was introduced to the teacher, we played lawn games, hunted treasure, we abseiled, climbed the rocks, adventured through the cave, hiked, danced, camped, drifted through the river, again camped by the riverbank, phew…we did a lot together and made so many memories. Those days were challenging, of course, but now that I recall it, being a part of the facilitating team taught me so many things. It taught me to see a different perspective, learn from the surrounding, try the different adventures, be humble, get the most out of what you have and most important of all, be prepared.

Kids bonded over the course of a week, we also got to know them, their likes and dislikes and how resilient they were in the face of any challenge. It really was a classroom without the walls.
